Located approximately 100 miles South of Orlando, Fl, Lake Placid is a small town thriving with shops and entertainment for the whole family. Founded on December 1, 1925, it was formally known as Lake Stearns. Melvil Dewey, the inventor of the Dewey Decimal System and also founder of the Lake Placid Club in New York, encourage the name change to Lake Placid. Since that time, the population has grown to a little over 2,500 residents. Other nicknames the town has acquired over the years is The Caladium Capital of the World and The Town of Murals.

Another big attraction in Lake Placid is the annual 2-day Caladium festival, which comes around at the end of July every year. Other attractions include “Toby the Clown” museum, airboats rides, Henscratch Farms and the various wineries in the area. But, the BIGGEST attraction for most is the amount of freshwater lakes in the area. Home to Lake June, as well as, many other lakes, a large population come to the area to not only fish but also water ski, lounge and have fun on the water. The deepwater ridge lakes are great for swimming and more shallow muck lakes are great for Bass fishing.
